Our typical SLD
battery usually includes a
one-hour developmental history and
interview. Actual testing
typically takes four to five
hours. Next, a written
comprehensive report is prepared
which includes specific
recommendations and interventions
that can facilitate your
understanding of the individual's
learning style and educational
needs. We also provide a one-hour
session to go over the assessment,
answer any questions, and provide
any necessary referrals to other
resources.
Gifted testing
typically takes between two and
two and a half hours. We usually
recommend that this testing be
conducted in the mornings when
children are usually at their
best. Some times students do not
pass the school screening but will
obtained the full IQ score that
qualifies them for the programs.
But, please remember, going to a
private professionals for such
testing does not guarantee your
child will obtain the qualifying
score.
As with all school
related testing, your public
school is well equipped and
prepared to test your child at no
cost. We administer many of the
same tests that your school does.
You are advised to talk to your
school counselor or principal
about the availability of their
psychologists. If they have a long
waiting list for testing and you
do not wish to wait then, by all
means, give us a call. We can
usually accomplish the testing in
a significantly shorter time than
the public schools.
Many parents seek
evaluations for Attention
Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
(AD/HD). Frequently, by the way,
parents object to the terminology
of Hyperactive, but the diagnosis
is AD/HD and is described as with
or without hyperactivity. We
perform a number of assessments
that help rule out an AD/HD
diagnosis. Among these are rating
scales and checklists completed by
parents and teachers. These help
identify behaviors that are
consistent with AD/HD. We also
perform a Continuous Performance
Test that helps identify attention
problems from a processing
perspective. It is important to
understand that symptoms of AD/HD
can be associated with a number of
other physical disorders. It is
very important to rule out any
medical condition or psychological
disorder before the diagnosis of
AD/HD is conclusive. We will work
with your child's school and
medical doctor closely in order to
insure a correct diagnosis.
